Introduction

Lung Teh Shipbuildnig Co., of Taiwan delivered nine special fast patrol boats to the Taiwan Coast Guard at the end of 2004. These patrol boats are mainly used for the demonstration and exercise of seamanship skills and for riverine and coastal patrol work.

The 9.5 metre fast patrol boat was designed to perform special and difficult manouvres at sea. The propulsion systems ensure extremely high mobility and excellent maneuverability. The waterjet system was chosen for that reason. The propulsion system comprises twin Hamilton HJ274 water jets driven by two Yanmar 6LY-STP diesel engines with maximum rating of 275kW at 3,300 rpm each.

The cockpit hardtop is removable. The cockpit hardtop provides necessary protection when patrols are carried out during bad weather. It can be easily removed even underway and good visibility is ensured. The hulls are made from FRP, and the scantlings were designed to withstand a slamming load of up to 4g acceleration at LCG.
