The passenger and cargo ferry ˇ§Star of Southern Seaˇ¨constructed with aluminum hull is 40.0 meters in length, 8.5 meters in breadth and runs at a maximum speed of 28.8 knots driven by two Caterpillar3516C HD diesel engines with fixed pitch propeller, the engine power is 3195PS each. It can carry 197 passengers and 27 tonnes cargo. The service area is Pescadores ( Penghu Islands ). The main route is Magong ˇV Wangan ˇV Cimei.
Since the Taiwan coastal area is notorious for rough seas and strong winds in winter, the hull form is deep-V shape with high bow to take more slamming load and reducing wave ingress. The hull form of the vessel has good resistance performance and has been test at model test basin of National Taiwan University and testified during sea trial.
The vessel is delivered to Penghu county in January 2007. It takes twelve months to complete the fully design and construction work of the vessel and inspected and classified by China Corporation Register of Shipping with notation CR 100+, "Ferry", CMS+, Coastal Service.
